Letter from the President

Dear Friend of Flow,                                           July 18, 2005

During the last eleven days in May, I had the opportunity to combine visits to flowmeter companies and oil fields with a tour of the Great Lakes.  I especially remember the Pictured Rocks tour along the edge of Lake Superior.  I also took the opportunity to sample the whitefish from the Lakes.  And the last day of my trip, I visited some oil and gas wells in Michigan.  I am trying to better understand the drilling process, and find out first-hand what types of flowmeters are used.  I found a large number of differential pressure and turbine flowmeters installed in these fields.

In many ways, this trip symbolizes what is going on today at Flow Research.  We are reaching out to new companies, and trying to solidify our relationships with existing clients.  We are seeking to expand our knowledge of flow by looking at flow from new points of view.  And the visit to the oil and gas wells goes along with new initiatives we are taking in the energy markets, including oil & gas.

So much has happened at Flow Research in the past six months that I decided it’s time to write a letter to bring you up-to-date on recent developments.  I also want to let you know that we have just sent out a new issue of our newsletter, Hot Hot Topics.  You can read this issue by going to our website at www.flowresearch.com and clicking on Hot Hot Topics - August 2005. And we are making a free CD available with some material on it that should be of great interest to you.

We have initiated a number of new projects, and have published a schedule of studies for the rest of the year.  Here is the schedule of market studies on flow we plan to publish in the next six months:

  • The Global Market for Magnetic Flowmeters, 3rd Edition (July 2005)

  • The World Market for Vortex Flowmeters, 3rd Edition (September 2005)

  • The Flowmeter User Perspective Survey, 2nd Edition (September 2005)

  • The World Market for DP Flowmeters and Primary Elements (October 2005)

  • The World Market For Steam Flow Measurement (December 2005)

We are also doing new editions of the temperature studies we first published in 2000:

  • The Market for Temperature Sensors in the Americas, 2nd Edition (October 2005)

  • The Market for Temperature Transmitters in the Americas, 2nd Edition (Nov. 2005)

  • Temperature User Perspectives Survey (December 2005)

In case you’re wondering, we also have some very exciting studies planned for 2006!

I am also very excited to tell you about our redesigned Worldflow Monitoring Service. This Service currently consists of three quarterly publications:

  • Worldflow Barometer

  • Process Industry Monitor

  • User Perspective

We have decided to make the User Perspective into a periodic publication instead of a quarterly publication.  Therefore, it will no longer be included in the annual Worldflow subscription.  Secondly, we are producing a more focused version of the Process Industry Monitor called the Energy Monitor.  The Energy Monitor will be focused on the energy industries:

  • Oil & gas production, exploration, & distribution

  • Refining & Petrochemical

  • Power & Renewables

  • Heating & Cooling

One reason for our success is our excellent staff.  Last November, Norm Weeks joined Flow Research after a 24 year stint with Verizon.  At Verizon, Norm specialized in creating customer solutions and product management.  He is now a fulltime market analyst for Flow Research, and has already completed several studies.  Norm has greatly enhanced our capabilities, and perhaps you’ve had occasion to hear his cheerful voice when you call.

Belinda Burum has also greatly increased her involvement at Flow Research.  Belinda joined the company in 2002, and has worked on many projects.  She is a very talented writer, and has a very strong customer focus.  Belinda is currently serving as editor of our new publication, the Worldflow Energy Monitor.  She is also actively involved in our Worldflow User Perspective surveys.

Finally, I want to let you know about our new CD.  We are making a number of the articles on flow I’ve published conveniently available on a CD.  We are also including a free copy of our latest Worldflow Barometer.  I think that you will find this content very useful, and I hope you will take advantage of it.  To receive your free CD, simply send us your mailing address, and we will send it right out to you!  You can use the attached EZ Faxback Response Form for this purpose.

Please also use the Response Form to let us know about any other information you would like to receive.  And let us know how we’re doing!  We’d love to hear from you.

Best regards,

Jesse Yoder
